Research computing and data insight boot camp

The Cyberinfrastructure Technology Integration (CITI) team will offer a new research computing and data insight boot camp for fall 2016. The four-day boot camp will provide participants with practical programming knowledge and familiarity with Clemson’s diverse research computing facilities. Refreshments will be provided. Participants who attend more than three workshops will get a certificate after the boot camp. The topics covered include:

Day One – Software Carpentry Workshop          Oct. 4       

  • Introduction to Linux          (9 a.m. -noon, B102 Barre Hall)
  • Introduction to Git              (1-4 p.m., B102 Barre Hall)

Day Two        Oct. 5     

  • Software Carpentry Workshop:

Introduction to Python for Research Computing      (9 a.m. – 4 p.m., B102 Barre Hall)

  • Software Carpentry Workshop:

Introduction to R for Data Science             (9 a.m. – 4 p.m., B106 Barre Hall)

  • Cleaning Data with Open Refine       (9 a.m. – noon, 406A Cooper Library)
  • Introduction to GIS                             (1-4 p.m., 406A Cooper Library)

Day Three        Oct. 6    

  • Introduction to Research Computing using Palmetto Cluster  (9 a.m. – noon, B102 Barre Hall)
  • Introduction to Hadoop MapReduce for Big Data   (1-4 p.m., B106 Barre Hall)

Day Four       Oct. 7    

  • Visualizing Research Data       (9 a.m. – noon, 310 Watt Family Innovation Center)  Refreshments not provided at this session.

 

Registration is a simple, two-step process:

  1. Sign up for the “Research Computing and Data Insight” course here.
  2. Select which of the boot camp sessions you will attend by answering the quiz here.
