The Call for Abstracts deadline for the 2014 S.C. Water Resources Conference (SCWRC) has been extended to Monday, April 21. Abstracts are being accepted from professionals and students for both oral and poster presentations on topics relating to Policy, Planning, Use Management and Permitting, Conservation, Monitoring, Quality, Ports, Water/Energy Nexus, Stormwater, Groundwater, River Basin and Stream Systems, Coastal and Estuarine Systems and more. Please visit www.scwaterconference.org to view a list of suggested topics for abstract categories and submit your abstract.

The 2014 SCWRC will be held October 15-16 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The conference is a biennial event that brings together participants from all areas concerned with water issues among statewide academic, private and public sectors. It is coordinated by Clemson University’s Institute of Computational Ecology, in conjunction with the Center for Watershed Excellence, and planned with a statewide committee of water resources professionals. The purpose is to provide an integrated forum for discussion of water policies, research projects and water management in order to prepare for and meet the growing challenge of providing water resources to sustain and grow South Carolina’s economy, while preserving our natural resources. This year’s theme is “Informing Strategic Water Planning to Address Natural Resource, Community and Economic Challenges.”

More than 300 people attended the 2012 SCWRC, which featured over 120 oral and poster presenters. The conference schedule includes an evening reception and poster session featuring a Student Poster Competition with cash prizes. The inaugural issue of the S.C. Water Resources Journal will be introduced this spring as an annual publication highlighting papers presented at the SCWRC and covering ‘state-of-the-state’ water resources themes.
