Shred Day scheduled for Oct. 28

Clemson’s Office of Information Security and Privacy will sponsor its 5th annual Shred Day 2014 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Littlejohn Coliseum’s north gate/parking lot. Chapin-based certified document destruction company Shred360 will be on hand to shred paper or computer-based storage media.

Destruction of paper-based products will be completed onsite. Offsite destruction for hard drives, magnetic tapes, and thumb drives will be completed at Shred360’s secure location and the company will provide a Certificate of Destruction for these items, if requested.

Those who want to rid themselves of university- or personally-owned hard drives can do so any time of the year at the University Surplus on Perimeter Road. The facility offers a Department of Defense-approved hard drive crusher on site to physically destroy the hard drive.

Shredding materials containing personal information can help to combat the ever-growing problem of identity theft. Items you may want to consider shredding include:

·      Personal documents
·      Transcripts
·      Receipts
·      Thumb drives
·      Hard drives
·      Magnetic tapes

This free event is being held in accordance with Cyber Security Awareness Month.
