Her talent is to tell the story of Clemson University. Her passion is to share the accomplishments and concerns of the university’s staff.

That’s exactly what Tina White will do as Clemson’s Staff Senate president. The Clemson Broadcast Productions senior producer was installed in the top spot at a ceremony yesterday.

“I am proud and humble to stand before you and represent such an outstanding group of people, from senator to the more than 3,000 staff here at Clemson and across the state,” she said during her first remarks as 2015-16 Staff Senate president.

White is no stranger to Clemson. The eight-year veteran joined the university as an avid athletics fan. But she found so much more.

“I tell people often that I came to this great university as an athletic fan but now I am much more of a fan academically,” she said. “I love Clemson. I raised my family here. This is where I want to be.”

Although White has a number of areas that she would like to address during her presidency, two themes dominated her inauguration speech:

  • Become a voice for the voiceless
  • Make Clemson a better place

“Your peers chose you for a reason,” White explained to her audience. “They saw something in you. So take that and use that to make sure that Clemson keeps going forward. You have the opportunity right now to make Clemson even better.”

White noted that with a new president, provost and academic focus to the university’s existing strategic plan, Clemson is in a time of transition. And because of that, the university’s staff—who White calls the backbone of the university—is in an excellent position to support change.

“We are at a new beginning in Clemson history, new administration, new policies, a whole new way of doing things,” she said “Let’s make sure that staff is a part of this growing movement.”
