Alexander “Xan” Faherty Bowman, student – March 5, 2017

Alexander “Xan” Faherty Bowman, 23, died March 5, 2017. He was a senior food science and human nutrition major from Mount Pleasant.

“Alexander had a bright and promising future ahead of him,” said Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students L. Christopher Miller. “We are saddened at this loss.”

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling. Students who want to speak to a counselor should contact CAPS at 864-656-2451.

The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 10, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. A Celebration of “Xan the Man” will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11, in St. Andrew’s Church, Mount Pleasant, 440 Whilden St.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Xan’s name to either Boykin Spaniel Rescue Inc., c/o Katherine Garstang, 1624 Yorktown Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or in memory of Xan, to the Clemson University Fund for students in need: Clemson University, Office of Development, 110 Daniel Drive, Clemson, SC 29631. (Make checks payable to “CUF” and in the “For” section of the check, please state “Student Emergency Fund/Alexander Faherty Bowman”).

Campus memorial information

The campus memorial service for Bowman is set for 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 in Tillman Hall-Memorial Auditorium.
