George Emmitt Carter, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology and Physiology and former Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, passed away on November 25, 2023, at the age of 77.
Dr. Carter earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wake Forest University before graduating with a Ph.D. in plant pathology and physiology from Clemson University. He spent the next 36 years at Clemson, first as a professor, and then in administration as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies until he retired.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 12-1 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 639 N. Main St., Greenville, SC 29601. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Burial will follow the service in Mountain View Cemetery, 408 North Fairplay St., Seneca, S.C. 29678.
