Joan Bobbitt McLaughlin, Professor Emerita of English and Humanities, passed away on December 19, 2023, at the age of 78.
McLaughlin joined Clemson in August 1975 as an assistant professor of English. She taught students of every level in undergraduate and graduate-level courses in both English and Humanities during her 30-year tenure with the University. While at Clemson, she also met and married her late husband of 38 years, John J. McLaughlin, a fellow faculty member.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Nicholls State University before receiving her master’s degree from Louisiana State University at New Orleans and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas.
