John Huffman, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry – May 14, 2022

John Huffman, 89, of Sylva, North Carolina, died Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was emeritus professor of chemistry who retired in 2006 after 46 years at Clemson. He continued working as a temporary grant research professor until 2010.

After earning his Bachelor of Science (1954) from Northwestern University, he earned his Ph.D. (1957) with the late Nobel laureate professor R.B. Woodward at Harvard. He began his academic career at Georgia Institute of Technology, later joining Clemson University in 1960. He was a National Science Foundation Predoctoral Fellow at Harvard and received a National Institutes of Health Career Development Award in 1965. Late in his career, he received an NIH Senior Scientist Award. His research led to more than 140 publications.
