Paul James ‘Jim’ Rathwell, Professor Emeritus of Agriculture and Applied Economics – December 19, 2023

Paul James “Jim” Rathwell, Professor Emeritus of Agriculture and Applied Economics passed on December 19, 2023, at the age of 77.

Rathwell joined Clemson on February 19, 1973, and totaled 34 years of service in the Agricultural and Applied Economics department before retiring in 2003. He worked in the School of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Science from March 2013 through October 2018 and  earned Pickens County Cattlemen of the Year honors in 2023 after producing the highest selling bull in Clemson history in the University’s Bull Test program.

Rathwell earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University before completing his master’s and Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University. He also taught economics at Tri-County Technical College after retiring from Clemson.
