William “Biff” Joseph Kennedy Jr., 84, of Hilo, Hawaii, Professor Emeritus of Industrial Engineering, died Aug. 24, 2022.

Originally hired in 1984, Kennedy retired in 2002 and was rehired in 2004 and retired again in 2012, for a total of 33 years of service to the University.

Kennedy earned degrees from Whitman College, Washington State University, the United States Naval Post Graduate School and Virginia Tech. He taught math at the Naval Post Graduate School and industrial engineering at the University of Utah, Clemson University and West Point.

He was a retired licensed Professional Engineer and member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). He was a United States Navy Veteran active duty and Reserves. He served as an electrician for Habitat for Humanity Oconee County, South Carolina and on the county Library Board.
