Changes are in store for riders who use Greenlink’s Tiger Commute route that connects Clemson and Greenville. Beginning July 1, Greenlink will alter its partnership with Clemson University to provide bus service on the Clemson/Greenville route.

But fear not. Clemson’s Parking and Transportation Services will provide transportation to the university’s faculty, staff and students via Tiger Transit. To board the bus, faculty, staff and students must show their Clemson ID card.

The change comes with good news.

Tiger Transit buses on this route will now leave every 30 minutes during the peak hours, instead of every 60 minutes. This change becomes effective in the fall. The bus stops will remain the same, according to Dan Hofmann, director of Parking and Transportation Services.

“Riders will be able to board their bus at the same location that they always have,” he explained. “Additionally, the buses will offer a more comfortable ride.”

Hofmann said Tiger Transit buses will have a GPS function installed. Riders can use the my.clemson mobile phone app, to track the exact location of the bus.

Although WI-FI will not initially be available on the Tiger Transit buses, Hofmann said that his department is in talks with Verizon to offer that service to riders.

The decision to cease service on this route was purely financial, according to the Greenville Transit Authority (GTA). The authority reported that federal and state funding cuts precluded its ability to subsidize the service. Clemson University also provided financial support for the bus route. By bringing the service “in house,” the university will reportedly save approximately $100,000 annually.

Clemson will continue to partner with GTA to provide service to satellite Greenville campus locations. GTA reports that the Clemson connector route in Greenville will be replaced by its new “Circulator” route. The new route will provide service to CU-ICAR, the University Center, Haywood Mall, Greenville Health System’s Patewood Campus and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System’s Eastside and Millennium campuses. According to GTA, passengers on Clemson’s Tiger Commute route will also be able to connect to Greenlink’s Route 14, which will now include both inbound and outbound stops at CU-ICAR connecting to downtown Greenville. Faculty, staff and students can also ride these routes fare free by showing their Clemson ID.

90 minutes before kickoff

Tiger Band will hold its “90 Minutes Before Kickoff” concerts this football season on home football Saturdays. The concert, which is also a pep rally, will take place at the outdoor amphitheater near the reflection pond at the center of campus.

One and a half hours before kickoff, Tiger Band will perform classics from their repertoire, such as “Tiger Rag” and “Eye of the Tiger,” as well as contemporary songs and half-time show highlights before making its traditional march down Fort Hill Street to Memorial Stadium.

The concerts will begin one and a half hours before kickoff on Sept. 5, 12, Oct. 3, 10, and 17, and Nov. 7 and 21. Check local listings for kickoff times.

A limited number of employee spaces remain in the aisle adjacent to Long Hall only. These spaces are reserved for those faculty and staff which must work on game days and is not meant as an alternative tailgating area. If this area is full, working employees are encouraged to park in green spaces along McMillan Rd and within the E-15 parking lot on the east side of Cooper Library.

All Non-IPTAY vehicles entering the lot will be charged $20 for parking in the lot.

Lot 2A – Temporary Commuter Parking – Closed Friday: To prepare for game day, lot 2A, (across from Fike Recreation Center) which has been designated for temporary commuter parking, is closed today. The lot will reopen for general use when game day parking items have been cleared. People should park in the white spaces in P-3 parking lot behind the stadium instead of lot 2A. This lot will be closed each Friday before home football games.

Tiger Tuesday celebrates Clemson-GHS collaboration

GHS-Clemson collaborationClemson and Greenville Healthcare System’s (GHS) celebrated its growing research and education partnership on Tuesday, March 24, encouraging people to get involved. Today, a growing number of researchers are active in this collaboration.

Tiger paw badge holders and information about the research opportunities and special programs offered through the Clemson-GHS collaboration were shared with Clemson employees, alumni and fans at each of the GHS campuses.

Clemson brings to the table a host of research capabilities, while GHS offers students and researchers the clinical opportunities and partnerships they need to put ideas into action.

“We’re better together,” says Windsor Sherrill, chief science officer at GHS and Clemson associate vice president for health research.

Clemson and GHS entered into a partnership in June 2013 to establish a healthcare research powerhouse that will fuel growth in medical research and GHS-Clemson collaboration2breakthroughs; create opportunities for faculty, physicians and students; and accelerate the flow of research funding into the Upstate. Under the landmark agreement, both organizations work to leverage existing research and educational expertise at Clemson, a top-20 national public university, with the clinical opportunities offered by GHS, one of the largest healthcare systems in the Southeast.
