Meet Greg Dessources!
Greg graduated from Clemson in 2011 as a marketing major with a minor in psychology. During his time at Clemson, he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, a Resident Assistant, and a Supplemental Instructor.
After graduation, Greg worked at Bank of America headquarters in Charlotte, NC for eight years in several capacities. His last role was a Vice President of Global Treasury Solutions for Commercial clients. In 2019, Greg left Bank of America to pursue an MBA full-time at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he will graduate in June of 2021. Upon graduation, he will transition to a new career as a consultant with Boston Consulting Group. There, his goal is to help a broad range of clients define and achieve their strategic objectives.
When asked about his ultimate career goals, Greg expressed that “Careers are not linear, and no one knows what the future holds. As long as I am able to provide for my family, am continuously learning, and I believe in the work that I am doing, I will consider myself successful.” Of all the lessons he learned at Clemson, there was one that stood out to him as being especially beneficial: the 4-Ps of marketing. Despite having a career that has heavily focused on numbers, he stressed that success really boils down to understanding those numbers in the context of a company’s broader strategy and knowing how to get buy-in from others. Greg also emphasized that “…even more importantly than the skills I gained, the best thing about Clemson is ‘once a Tiger always a Tiger!’ I have gotten so many opportunities, and mentorship from fellow alumni that have been invaluable in launching my career.”
The most important thing Greg has done since graduating from Clemson, though, has been marrying his smart, beautiful and amazing wife who is also a Tiger. They had their first child, a son, last Spring.
Greg’s favorite Clemson tradition is football, but he explains that it’s “… not just about the game: it’s about how family oriented the culture is. It is amazing to see multiple generations of an entire family – grandparents, grandkids, current students, and their parents – all enjoying the same event. Now that I am a parent, I cannot wait to take my son to his first football game!”
In the near future, Greg will seek to give back to Clemson by mentoring undergraduate students interested in marketing, strategy, or finance. He is also interested in supporting the Minority Business Student Association. In the long-term, Greg hopes to be a Visiting Professor at Clemson teaching a course on leadership.
