Joseph Pelfrey is the director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He first joined Marshall full-time in 2004 as an aerospace engineer. He served in various leadership roles within the International Space Station Program (ISS) and the Engineering Directorate. Pelfrey played key roles in developing the Ares I Upper Stage and the Space Launch System and later managed programs in the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services Project.
As Marshall’s Human Exploration Development and Operations Office Manager, Pelfrey oversaw management and implementation of work in the areas of human exploration and transportation projects; habitation systems, payload and mission operations and integration; and ISS payload, facility, environmental control and life support systems project development and integration.
