Clemson is proud to be a partner institution for the inaugural cohort of NextGen Service Fellows! The deadline to submit an application is May 8th so interested students are encouraged to contact the Office of Major Fellowships at fellowships@clemson.edu immediately to learn more and plan their applications.
The NextGen Service Fellowship will provide funding for 50 U.S. college students at partner universities to gain hands-on experience in international development while addressing the needs of vulnerable and marginalized communities overseas. This Fellowship aims to inspire and equip the next generation of American public service leaders through immersive, hands-on experience working in and with communities around the world, including Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
The fellowship broadly covers expenses for a period of 4 weeks. Students participating in longer programs may self-fund portions beyond 4 weeks. Benefits include:
- Up to $6,700 to cover housing, food, local transportation, and incidentals, including visa expenses, over a 4-week period
- Round-trip economy airfare from the United States to program destination (Fellows will arrange their own travel and lodging in cooperation with the hosting entity.)
- Enrollment in IIE’s International Health Insurance Plan
Eligibility
All applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet the following criteria by the application deadline:
- 21 years or older
- Enrolled as a student at a partner university as of May 1, 2025 (see list below)
- Available to participate in an international summer 2025 internship, service-learning, or volunteer project for a 4-week period between mid-July and mid-August
- All fields of study are eligible

Students awarded funding will need to register their travel with the Office of Global Engagement.
