CECAS Faculty & Staff Resources for Undergraduate Studies

Updates From This Week (August 16-22)

Here are some updates and new information from this past week.

  • Continue to read the regular short emails from Academic Affairs, Sprint to Fall: A Guide for Instructors to Launch Fall 2020 Teaching. These emails include timely information and updates relevant to teaching this semester.
  • This semester, the University will launch a new tool for instructors to report on students of concern in their classes. This plan will consist of two easy to complete “progress reports”.  The purpose of these reports is to get feedback from instructors, then reach out to students to connect them to resources that may be useful to them.  This type of intervention can help identify students in need of assistance.
    • The first report, called Engaged Online, will be launched on August 31 and will focus on student engagement in the class. This is especially important this year due to the initial online instruction period.  Instructors will be asked to indicate students that they have concerns about due to lack of engagement during the first couple of weeks of class.  The report will be simple to complete and no grades will be required.  Instructors will not be required to report on students for whom there is no concern to that point.  All instructors and advisors will receive emails about this effort the week of August 24.  This report will close on September 4.
    • The second report will be launched in early- to mid-October and will focus on student progress in the course. Again, instructors will be asked to report on students for whom they have concerns about due to lack of engagement, academic progress in the course, attendance issues, etc.  This report will also be simple and instructors will not be required to report on students for whom there is no concern to that point.
  • The new class schedule app will be available for students and instructors on my.Clemson on August 27.  Among other things, this app will provide a calendar for students to see when they are scheduled for in-person or online classes throughout the semester.  Instructors will also be able to see who is scheduled to be in-person or online each day in their hybrid classes.
