CECAS Faculty & Staff Resources for Undergraduate Studies

Beginning of Semester Reminders, Information, and Resources (January 5, 2021)

Happy New Year!  I hope you enjoyed the holidays and are ready to jump into a new semester.  As we start the semester (classes begin tomorrow), here are some information and updates.

Academic Affairs Emails – CU in Spring Semester: Tips, Strategies and Resources for Instructors

Be on the lookout for Academic Affairs emails (CU in Spring Semester) from the Provost’s Office.  These come out frequently and include information, tips, strategies, and resources for instructors.

Student Accommodations For All Online Classes

As with the fall, students had the option to request to take all classes online.  You can see who has accommodations in your class by going to the AIM Instructor Dashboard through Student Accessibility Services.  You can access the dashboard by clicking HERE, then scrolling to bottom of the page and clicking AIM Instructor Dashboard.

Class Attendance App

As with last semester, the student attendance schedules for hybrid courses is listed in the my.Clemson app (also at my.clemson.edu).  Once in the app/site, there are a few paths to view the schedule:

  • COVID-19 –> COVID-19 Faculty Schedule App
  • Academics –> COVID-19 Faculty Schedule App
  • Employees –> COVID-19 Faculty Schedule App

Once in the schedule, an instructor can click on the icon in the top left corner of the class meeting to see the class roll and days the students attend in-person or online.  This semester, the app also includes those who have the accommodation to take all of their classes online.

Student Attendance

As we enter the semester, please keep in mind that there will likely be students who have to miss class for an extended period of time due to COVID-19.  In some cases, depending on symptoms, students will still be able to participate online.  They should be afforded the opportunity to do so.  If a student has to miss class due to COVID-19, it is recommended that you have them notify you through the Notification of Absences form in Canvas (click HERE for instructions).  In addition to informing instructors, this will also inform other relevant campus offices of the situation.

Due to the short timeframe for which students have had this week to get their COVID-19 test, there may be some students (non-residential) who will not be cleared to access campus facilities this week and, therefore, may not be able to attend classes in person this week.  You are encouraged to have some flexibility for these students this week.

Teaching Resources

The Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation (OTEI) has updated their Instruction for 2020-2021 website to include useful information about teaching online or hybrid/blended courses including the Instructional Playbook for Blended Learning.  The site also serves as repository for information related to all types of classes including class regulations, guidance on attendance policies, and more.

Dr. John Griffin, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, has created a shared Box folder containing documents related to Spring 2021 planning.  You can access this folder HERE.
