This past Thursday through Saturday (March 26th through the 28th), Clemson University’s Army ROTC Junior Cadets conducted a joint military training exercise at Fant’s Grove Training site with local ROTC battalions in the upstate. Along with the Clemson Fighting Tigers were: Furman University, Wofford College, North Greenville University, Presbyterian College, Lander University, Newberry College, and USC Upstate. The all-encompassing training tested Cadets on the skills and knowledge developed throughout the past 3 years of their training. Cadets conducted land navigation, patrolling, and FLRC (field leadership reaction course) all in preparation for Cadet Leadership Course this summer.
The training for Clemson ML 3’s began at 0800 on 26MAR15. This phase of training consisted of loading of equipment at Battalion Headquarters and ended with a patrolling lane. After link-up with the other battalions, Cadets set up a patrol base and conducted night land navigation training. The following day, Cadets conducted a two phase training event, consisting of a FLRC course and squad land navigation. Cadets were given a road-to-war brief prior to lights out, and then were issued M-16’s, 240 B’s, and M-203’s. The third and final day of training consisted of two patrolling lanes where each platoon conducted both a raid and an ambush, with most cadets having a leadership role. Training ended with the cleaning and return of weapons.
