Greetings fellow Tigers!
Bright blue skies, crisp cool air — this is the time of year Tigers appreciate our perfect location in the Blue Ridge foothills. Students are staking out their outdoor study spots and enjoying volleyball on Bowman.
The Appalachian State game was a great gathering of friends and family with lots of smiling faces in the president’s suite and all around the stadium. Take a moment to see and share photos of the fun.
We talk a lot about having the Will to Lead. But how do we help students become leaders? The College of Business and Behavioral Science is introducing a new course called “Being a Leader” at Greenville ONE on October 7, featuring the renowned Harvard business professor, Michael Jensen. He will be joined by colleagues to discuss his approach to leadership built on authenticity, integrity and committing to something bigger than oneself. The course will be offered in June of 2016 and is open to local businesses. See more details about the introductory event.
A generous gift from Hewlett-Packard (HP) will make a significant difference for our graphic communications students. An HP Indigo 5000 Digital Press, valued at more than $500,000, will be part of a new academic collaboration to support the next generation of talent in the digital printing field. More than 600 students each year will receive experience and the opportunity to obtain official certification using the press. Read more about how this experience will help students gain access to internship and career opportunities in graphic communications and packaging science.
B-Engaged
The Clemson University board of trustees’ task force on the history of the University announced that it will work with President Clements and members of the administration to engage a diverse group of stakeholders to best tell the University’s complete, accurate history. The task force, lead by David H. Wilkins, will gather a broad set of viewpoints and critical feedback through meetings, listening sessions, conversations and written submissions. Concerning the realignment of academic colleges to position the University for excellence in 2020 and beyond — Clemson’s leadership is scheduled to present the proposed realignment to the board of trustees for consideration at the October 2015 meeting. See the principles being used to ensure the success of this mission.
B-Cheerful!
Don’t forget to cheer on our Tigers tonight. You can find the game on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. If you’re in Louisville for the game, head over to Churchill Downs this afternoon at 3:30 to join the Greater Louisville Clemson Club, IPTAY and the Clemson Alumni Association for some pre-game fellowship and horse racing. It’s just a short walk to the stadium from there. Find out more about tickets, parking, etc.
Amid the cheers and hoopla, let’s remember why we celebrate our Clemson pride. It’s all about this University that has brought so much knowledge, friendship and joy to each of us. Your efforts help Clemson today, Clemson tomorrow and Clemson forever.
Go Tigers! Beat Louisville!
