Greetings fellow Tigers!
What an exhilarating win last week against Louisville! I hope those of you who made the trip to Louisville had a safe and enjoyable time. Football wasn’t our only win last week. Both men and women’s soccer had exciting wins this past weekend. Just as we cheer on all of our great athletic teams, I hope all of us use that same energy to continue our momentum in the Will to Lead campaign. We have a lot to be proud of and to celebrate this week!

Through the Nationwide Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI), a $75 million grant has been awarded to the FlexTech Alliance. The alliance comprises a consortium of industries and universities, including Clemson. Chip Tonkin, director of the College of Business and Behavioral Science’s Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, graphic communications chair and a founding member of the flexible hybrid electronics (FHE) proposal for the grant said, “This is the first time Clemson has been part of an NNMI grant and the implications to the University and the area could be huge.” The federal government hopes this work will put the U.S. on the forefront of FHE manufacturing. See more about this groundbreaking production at Clemson.
Mechanical engineering student Anna Schleifer received a $10,000 scholarship from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Schleifer’s strong interest in the profession and real-world experience through a three-semester co-op with Southland Industries made her an ideal recipient. Ginger Scoggins, the ASHRAE Region IV director and regional chair, presented the scholarship to Schleifer on Wednesday in the Fluor Daniel Engineering Innovation Building. Schleifer expects to graduate from Clemson in May 2016 with no debt, thanks in part to ASHRAE’s Willis H. Carrier Scholarship. Read more and check out pictures from the presentation.

Shay and Lil Stoney established an endowment to honor their son’s memory in 2008. The Charles P. Stoney Scholarship Endowment provides undergraduate scholarships to students majoring in environmental and natural resources within the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences. This scholarship has changed the lives of many students, and the University is confident that the endowment will continue to grow and benefit many more Tigers throughout the years. As we continue to celebrate student success, I want to thank you for your leadership and generosity. Your continued support for our students, faculty, facilities and engaged learning experiences is remarkable.
Go Tigers!
