Hasala Dharmawardena receives the Region 3 Director’s Choice Award at the IEEE SoutheastCon annual conference in April.
Hasala Dharmawardena, PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the IEEE Region 3 Director’s Choice Award. The Director’s Choice Award recognizes a member of IEEE Region 3 “for exceptional service to Region 3 through expanding the engagement opportunities offered to Young Professionals.” The award was presented at the 2022 IEEE SoutheastCon convention on April 2 in Mobile Alabama.
Hasala is an Electric Power Engineer with a combined eleven years of experience working in the design, construction, and commissioning of power systems and in the research and development of transmission and distribution system technology. He specializes in modeling, simulation, and optimization of power systems. Hasala is an avid energy policy advocate and has contributed to numerous utility rate cases across the globe.
He is also a passionate volunteer for IEEE. He currently serves on the IEEE-USA Board of Directors, the IEEE Power and Energy leadership team as the Chair of the Student Chapters Committee, and the IEEE Young Professionals leadership team as the Vice-Chair of Products and Services for IEEE Young Professionals.
