The title of her poster is Electrochemical Detection of Salmonella enterica in Hydroponic Systems.  Lisseth made her presentation in the Session on Electrochemical Sensors for Healthcare and Environment, Division of Analytical Chemistry.

She is a Ph.D. student in the Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences program, working with Dr. Diana Vanegas and Dr. Eric McLamore. Lisseth is pioneering ways to detect pathogens like Salmonella enterica that may be taken up by plants grown in hydroponic systems that use alternative water and nutrient sources such as brackish water and partially treated wastewater instead of freshwater and synthetic fertilizers. Reducing environmental impacts from agriculture without compromising food safety is the main vision driving Lisseth’s work.  Her research is part of a larger multi-institution center of excellence funded by the USDA-NIFA

Congratulations Lisseth!
