Evan Patrohay, a senior in Biosystems Engineering, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. This placed Evan as one of just 12 students nationally to be granted this opportunity. As a Fulbright Scholar, Evan will be traveling to Tromso, Norway, a town high above the Arctic Circle, to study the effects of climate change on the Arctic ecosystems via a trait-based study on ice meiofauna. This will give Evan a great opportunity to learn about the unique culture of people living in this remote area, which is so closely tied to the ice, and how they are using their knowledge to adapt to unprecedented changes in their Arctic home.
According to the Fulbright website, the U.S. Student Program offers research, study and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. From its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has fostered bilateral relationships in which citizens and governments of other countries work with the U.S. to set joint priorities and shape the program to meet shared needs. The world has been transformed in ensuing decades, but the fundamental principle of international partnership remains at the core of the Fulbright mission.
