EEES Students Win Big in Georgia

Groome, Greene, Larsen, and McClelland at the May 2021 graduation ceremony

A team of four seniors in Environmental Engineering took the top prize in an annual competition hosted by the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP), in April 2021.  The winning team consisted of Danny Greene, Evan Groome, Danielle Larsen, and Curtis McClelland.  Their project involved a detailed engineering design study of alternatives methods to treat biosolids produced at the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Recovery Facility in Gwinnett County, Georgia.  The GAWP Student Design Competition (SDC) promotes real-world design experience for students interested in pursuing education and a career in the water and wastewater field. The basis for the teams’ presentation at the GAWP meeting was their capstone design project required for the BS degree in Environmental Engineering.  The team now has an opportunity to compete nationally, at the annual meeting of the Water Environment Federation.

Congratulations to Danny, Evan, Danielle, and Curtis, and to the faculty advisors for capstone design, Drs. David Ladner and Sudeep Popat.
