Livestock and Forages – Team Highlight

As a two-part series, Livestock and Forages Agents offered webinars on Equine Management Practices. Topics included dry lots, rotational grazing, fall forage planting, and hay quality. Over one hundred participants registered for the webinars from several different states and as far-reaching as the UK and Europe. Our team of agents facilitated great discussions during the program, along with positive post-program reviews. Each webinar provided information to equine owners to make crucial forage and nutritional decisions for the care of their horses. The second webinar also emphasized the importance of vaccinating for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Dr. Sean Eastman provided an update on statewide cases and ways to help prevent the spread. Currently, South Carolina is 2nd in the nation for EEE cases making it even more critical to educate horse owners on the importance of vaccinating their horses. The next equine webinar will focus on transportation and safety in recognition of National Farm Safety Week, September 20-26, 2020. Participant Feedback:
“Excellent job! The information was helpful and well presented.”

“I thought the program was excellent and I liked the ‘webinar’ format better than a typical ‘Zoom meeting’ format (fewer distractions from unmuted mics, tangential questions, etc).”

What was the most interesting fact that you learned during this webinar? “The different fall forages for the Upstate”
