IE Grad Student Sweeps Teaching Assistant Honors at Clemson

Morteza Soltani, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University, has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to teaching and student mentorship through four distinguished honors. He has received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award from Clemson University, the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS) and the Department of Industrial Engineering, as well as the Teaching Assistant of the Year Award, a distinction voted on by students within IE.

These awards are a testament to Morteza’s dedication to academic excellence and student engagement. As a graduate teacher of record, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and intellectually rigorous learning environment. His approach to instruction is characterized by clarity, accessibility, and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter—qualities that have earned him widespread respect from both students and faculty.

One IE undergraduate student wrote, “I’ve never met a more caring and genuine person—he goes above and beyond, both in and outside the classroom.”

Beyond his experience in teaching, Morteza’s research focuses on stochastic operations research. His recent work focuses on optimizing maintenance strategies for offshore wind turbines, addressing critical challenges in the reliability and cost-efficiency of renewable energy systems.
