H-CORE at Clemson: A Milestone Summer for Undergraduate Research
The Department of Industrial Engineering celebrated a major milestone this summer with the launch of the first H-CORE (Human-Centered Operations Research and Engineering) REU program. Led by Dr. Thomas Sharkey, Dr. Jessica Aviles, and Dr. Emily Tucker, the 10-week experience brought undergraduates from across the country to Clemson for hands-on research, mentorship, and professional development. Students explored projects ranging from personalized training and assistive devices to workforce optimization and equitable park access, each focused on applying industrial engineering to improve human systems.

The Clemson Industrial Engineering department had a strong presence at the 2025 IISE Annual Conference and Expo.
