CUPD: Holiday, semester-break information

Take note of these important semester-break notices:

Park in R-3 during holidays for added security

Resident students leaving their cars on campus during the holiday break are encouraged to park them in lot R-3, west of Memorial Stadium.

This will allow the Clemson University Police Department to maintain a closer, more efficient surveillance of cars left behind during the holidays. By maximizing resources in this way, CUPD hopes to deter auto break-ins and vandalism.

Make plans for safe, secure holiday

With students anticipating the semester’s end, this is no time to let your guard down. The Clemson University Police Department reminds you to take extra care this time of year to safeguard your possessions and your own well-being:

—  Keep an eye on your book bag. There is a ready resale market for its
contents this time of year — don’t leave it unattended in the library,
bookstore, dining hall or classroom.

—  Safeguard your wallet, checkbook and credit cards, especially while
exercising at Fike Recreation Center or socializing in local restaurants and clubs.

—  Always lock your car doors and secure your bike or scooter. University
Police report a high incident of bike and scooter thefts this time of year.

Note: Do not park your moped/scooter inside your apartment or residence hall; this is a fire hazard and will be addressed with towing. The university’s towing vendor provides holiday storage for your moped/scooter for $20 a week. Contact Randy’s Towing Service 864-882-9181 or 864-710-7674 to arrange for storage. You are responsible for getting your moped/scooter to and from 700 W. North 1st Street in Seneca.

—  Secure your room or apartment. Lock the doors even if you’re just going
down the hall, and especially when you leave for holiday break.

—  Drive carefully. Statistics show this is a prime time for an accident —
more traffic on the roads and drivers with holiday plans on their minds.

—  Be responsible about the use of alcohol. If you are of legal drinking age and you choose to drink, do so in moderation and always select a designated driver.

Campus safety during the holiday break

If you spend time in your office or lab during the holidays, CUPD reminds you to:

—  Carry your university ID and present it to CUPD officers who ask for identification.

—  Notify CUPD at 656-2222 if you plan to spend an extended period of time in a campus building.

—  Contact Tiger Transit at 656-3333 for transit to and from your car between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
