Meal allowances for travel increased, effective, July 1, 2019

Recently, the state legislature voted to increase the state’s per diem rates – welcome news for Clemson’s many faculty and staff who routinely travel while representing the University.

In-state and out-of-state meal allowances increased per the 2019-2020 General Appropriations Act (Proviso 117.20 (A)). Effective July 1, the meal allowance ceiling increased by $10 to $35 per day in-state and increased $18 to $50 per day for travel outside of South Carolina.

Partial-day splits will also be impacted by the changes to the state disbursement regulations.

In-state allowances are as follows:

  • Breakfast – $8
  • Lunch – $10
  • Dinner – $17

Out-of-state allowances are as follows:

  • Breakfast – $10
  • Lunch – $15
  • Dinner – $25

Paper reimbursement forms and paperless my.Clemson forms have been updated to reflect the changes for travel occurring on or after July 1, 2019. For additional information, contact clemsontravel@clemson.edu or (864) 656-2090.
