Officials continue to monitor Hurricane Irma, impacts

Clemson University continues to closely monitor Hurricane Irma. Forecasters say that South Carolinians should remain vigilant and expect heavy rain and strong winds. The Sept. 6 executive order that declared a state of emergency in South Carolina remains in effect.

Here’s what we’re doing:
-Clemson remains in regular contact with local and state emergency services.
-University officials have reached out to colleges and universities on the coast and are ready to host their students during evacuations.
-CCIT is also monitoring the situation and will post any system updates to ccit.clemson.edu and on Twitter @ClemsonIT.

Here’s what you should do:
-Review your emergency plan. The CU Safety page, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and the National Weather Service provide safety and emergency planning tips.

-Be informed. Clemson provides updates through:
Clemson University homepage
CU alerts page
–University email
–CU Safe Alert text messages via cell phone – click here for directions on how to sign up to receive alerts.
–CU Safe Twitter account @cusafety

-Students should share this information with their friends and parents.

The Clemson vs. Auburn football game will commence as scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday. Because some law enforcement agencies have been deployed to the coast, spectators may experience higher-than-normal traffic delays, so plan accordingly.

Clemson will work with local and state officials and will update you with information as we receive it.
