Pilcher receives Class of ’39 Award for Excellence, recognition event Feb. 9

June J. Pilcher, Alumni Distinguished Professor of psychology, was selected as the recipient of the 2015 Class of ’39 Award for Excellence.

The Faculty Senate invites all faculty, students, and staff to the unveiling of Pilcher’s inscription on the ’39 Bell Tower in the Carillon Gardens at 4:30 p.m. Tues., Feb. 9. Pilcher was initially honored by Provost Robert H. Jones at Clemson’s Dec. 17 graduation ceremony.

Pilcher’s research on the effects of stress and fatigue has been funded for more than 15 years by several national agencies. She has also started a new research effort examining the effects of sedentary behavior on stress, health, and well-being.

Pilcher was the Fulbright-Freud Visiting Scholar 2011-2012 at the University of Vienna and the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna, Austria and is currently a candidate on the Fulbright Specialist Roster for Public/Global Health. Additionally, she is the president of Clemson Phi Kappa Phi Chapter, has been invited to be a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer for 2016-18, and has been recognized as a Fellow in the Association for Psychological Science. Before beginning her academic career, Pilcher served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman and then research psychologist in the U.S. Army.

The Class of 1939 established the Award for Excellence in 1989 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the class. The Great Class of 1939, itself characterized by remarkable service to Clemson University, the community, the state, and the nation, created this award to recognize and inspire faculty service above and beyond expectations.
