Resources available to deal with Townville Elementary shooting

Violence has disrupted the peace of Townville Elementary School leaving innumerable questions as the community responds to the new reality. This time, a senseless school shooting occurred in our community and it is being felt up-close and personal. Counseling and Psychological Services supports the efforts of the community and of those affected.  People can have different reactions to violence targeting a school setting and family.

Invariably, there’s a feeling of vulnerably while we try to make sense of the unexplainable.  Visit the American Psychological Association’s Help Center for useful resources. If you need to explain this tragic event to children, click here for useful tips. Through it all, we recommend that you pay particular attention to your self-care.

If you find that, after utilizing the tips given, you are still struggling with your reactions and these are affecting your behavior, we encourage students to access the services of Counseling and Psychological Services through our daily, walk-in clinic, (Monday – Friday) from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CAPS is located at Redfern Health Center.

Faculty and staff may obtain mental health services through Deer Oaks, employee assistance program.
