University’s Perimeter Road speed limit dropping to 35 mph

Drivers on Clemson University’s Silas N. Pearman Boulevard – commonly known as Perimeter Road – will need to slow down. The speed limit is being lowered to 35 mph from 45 mph.

New speed limit signs are being installed along the road, which runs from U.S. 76 to Walter T. Cox Boulevard (Highway 93).

Clemson University Police Chief Jami Brothers said one reason for the reduced speed limit is that there have been a number of accidents on the road, and it is about to get busier as drivers are directed to take it to avoid construction on Walter T. Cox Boulevard beginning this month. Summer camps also will bring more pedestrians crossing the road, she said.

“Our primary goal is to keep pedestrians and drivers safe, and slowing traffic on Perimeter is the best way to do that,” Brothers said.
