Sept. 30 Writing in the Disciplines workshop shares best practices

By Steven B. Katz, Ph. D. and Angie Justice

A new interdisciplinary initiative for Clemson’s colleges will help faculty foster, facilitate and improve student writing across the university.

Launched by Dr. Steve Katz, R. Roy and Marnie Pearce Professor of Professional Communication and Professor of English, and Dr. Lesly Temesvari, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences, the Writing in the Disciplines (WID) workshop is the first of four events to be held annually. The first workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. This is open to all university faculty and staff. A complimentary lunch will be served at the event.

Workshops will primarily focus on implementing writing in already established courses in your discipline by employing methods and heuristics based on research and best teaching practices. Systematic approaches to teaching writing as well as utilizing the latest communication technologies, such as Adobe Suite, now available campus wide, will be explored. Dr. Art Young, former Campbell Chair and Professor Emeritus of English, will attend and briefly share his experiences.
