Broadus “Willis” Bannister, Extension retiree – April 28, 2021

Broadus “Willis” Bannister, 87, of Belton died April 28, 2021. He retired from Clemson Extension in 1999 after 23 years.

Bannister was a 1951 graduate of Anderson Boys High where he was a standout football player and was selected for the 1950 South Carolina high school all-star game.

He was raised on a farm and farmed all of his life. He worked for the Agriculture Conservation and Stabilization Service and the agricultural extension services of Clemson University and South Carolina State University for more than 30 years. He was a certified Master Gardener, was one of the founders of the Master Gardener course in the Anderson area and taught and mentored Master Gardener students.

He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Peggy Smith Bannister; his brother, Jimmy R. Bannister (Glenda); three children, Capt. Randall W. Bannister, USN (ret) (Cheryl), Margaret B. Cleveland (Carlton), Capt. C. Wesley Bannister, USN (ret) (Suzanne); seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
