Charles Ronald Dillon, “Hook,” 92, of Clemson died May 1, 2020. Dillon was professor emeritus and chair of botany at Clemson University before retiring in 1993.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he earned bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. in marine ecology. Upon graduation, he accepted a teaching position in the botany department at Clemson University, where he developed the first marine biology, marine ecology and oceanography courses.

He later became department chair and served as president of the Faculty Senate.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janie Lee Clement; son, “Bub” Dillon (Janet); daughter, Kathy Dillon Gaughf (Paul); and three grandchildren.
