Fred J. Stutzenberger, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences, passed away on October 18, 2023, at the age of 82 in Clemson, S.C.
He joined Clemson University on June 20, 1974, and retired briefly in 2003 before rejoining the faculty from 2004-2019. He served in the Emeritus College from April 15, 2015 until his passing.
Dr. Stutzenberger received his bachelor’s degree from Bellarmine University before obtaining his master’s degree from the University of Houston and his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Medicine from Michigan State. He also served as a Lt. Colonel in the United States Navy under the United States Public Service during the Vietnam War.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date on the main campus of Clemson University.
