John Bennett, professor emeritus – Sept. 5, 2020

John Bennett, 88, professor emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering, died Sept. 5, 2020. Bennett retired from Clemson in 1996 after 23 years.

A lifetime member of IEEE, he was part of the team that designed the backup navigational system for the lunar rover.

Bennett served in the Air Force during the Korean War, learning about rocket navigational systems. He went on to get a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee. He was an avid traveler, storyteller, hiker and fly-fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Claudette Bennett; daughters, Barbara Bennett and Kelli (Dave) Suggs; brother, Bill (Ann) Bennett, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A small service is planned in Clemson Friday, Sept. 11, with interment in Tennessee later this year.
