Samuel Guy Turnipseed, professor emeritus – Oct. 11, 2019

Samuel Turnipseed, Professor Emeritus of Entomology, died on October 11, 2019. Turnipseed joined Clemson University in 1961 and retired after 45 years of service.

Turnipseed, 85, passed away at his home in Quimistan, Honduras, where he had served as a missionary with Tranquilidad Foundation since 2011.

Turnipseed, who earned a master’s degree from Clemson, worked at the Edisto Research Center in Blackville.

He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; brother, Tom Turnipseed (Judy) of Columbia; son, D. Michael Turnipseed (Maria) of Avon, Indiana; daughter, Susan Richardson (Don) of West Jefferson, North Carolina; daughter, Leigh Wechter (Pat) of Ravenel; stepson, Craig A .Francis (Casey) of Bozeman, Montana; nine foster children at Tranquilidad Foundation of Quimistan, Honduras; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Talatha Baptist Church, 361 Talatha Church Road, Aiken.
