Giancarlo, a first-generation college student, is quickly building an impressive track record as a full-time Corporate MBA student. Fresh off his undergraduate graduation in May, he is leveraging his experiences to secure impactful opportunities in the corporate world.
His undergraduate years extended beyond the classroom; they were a transformative journey where he actively sought resources and guidance. As a member and treasurer of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), he tapped into a crucial network that kickstarted his career. ALPFA, an organization that provides students with essential resources for professional development and networking, gave Giancarlo invaluable insights into internships, job opportunities, and career growth, serving as a vital lifeline for a first-generation college student.
Joining ALPFA enhanced his résumé and made him realize that pursuing a master’s degree could significantly improve his career opportunities. “I know how valuable an MBA program is and how it can help you advance in your career and progress faster,” he explains. This understanding motivated him to enroll in the Corporate MBA program, where he is determined to take full advantage of every available resource to secure top internships, land coveted job positions, and accelerate his climb up the corporate ladder.
Giancarlo’s proactive networking efforts are already yielding positive results. By connecting with recruiters at an ALPFA convention, he established relationships with representatives from Ally Financial, leading to an exciting opportunity: a summer 2025 internship in consumer insights and innovation. Although he feels fortunate to have secured the position, he emphasizes that he made a solid effort to get noticed and leave a lasting impression on the recruiters.
Giancarlo is currently taking his favorite class, managerial decision modeling, which equips him with essential skills for his upcoming summer internship, and he’s eager to apply his learning while tackling every task with dedication.
In addition to his studies, Giancarlo serves as the treasurer of the MBA Student Association. This role allows Giancarlo to develop his leadership skills further while actively engaging in the MBA community. In his own words, he believes, “Getting involved helps me meet people, gain access to new opportunities, and acquire new skills.”
Giancarlo describes his experience in the MBA program as transformative, saying, “I’ve loved the MBA program so far,” and noting that it offers much more than just academic growth. He praises the professors and their incredible work, providing knowledge and practical insights that make the coursework highly relevant to his career aspirations. Their support and expertise have been instrumental in helping him navigate the program and instilling the confidence to embrace new challenges and opportunities.
Helping others is central to Giancarlo’s identity and is dedicated to paying it forward. He explains, “I want to help the younger students and help them in the position I used to be in so they can achieve their dreams, too.” Determined to remember his journey, he strives to make a meaningful impact by sharing advice, mentoring fellow students, and creating opportunities for others.
