Carolyn Crist’s journey with Clemson University began as an undergraduate student and later as a University employee. While working for Clemson, she pursued her MBA part-time, attending evening classes while continuing her professional responsibilities. Excited about the opportunity to advance her education, Carolyn’s journey through the program would be both unique and transformative.

Starting her MBA before the pandemic, Carolyn experienced the transition to fully online learning as COVID-19 reshaped the academic landscape. Near the end of her program, in-person classes resumed, allowing her to appreciate both the virtual and traditional MBA experiences. This dual perspective gave Carolyn valuable insight into adaptability and resilience, which continue to serve her well.

After completing her MBA, Carolyn stepped into a new role at Global learning Opportunities (GLO), an opportunity that came through a connection in her network. Transitioning from her previous university-focused roles, Carolyn embraced the challenge of a completely different career path as a project manager in the field of study abroad.

In this role, she manages logistics for programs in many destinations and partners with universities and community groups to provide enriching international experiences. “The work is truly enlightening, with connections worldwide,” Carolyn shares. Her work requires staying attuned to global events to ensure safety and smooth operations, with GLO sending real-time alerts to keep participants informed.

Carolyn’s commitment to growth and connection didn’t end with graduation. As a member of the MBA Alumni Council, she now mentors students who may feel uncertain about their career paths. “I thought I was going to do something completely different,” Carolyn reflects. “I want to help students who might be in the same position and show them the value of exploring new directions.”

Carolyn’s future goals center on continual growth and embracing challenges. She’s committed to developing new skill sets and stepping outside her comfort zone to broaden her horizons. “Even once you feel comfortable, stretch yourself,” she advises. “And even when you feel like an expert, always be willing to learn from others. Growth is a lifelong process.”

For current and prospective MBA students, Carolyn emphasizes the importance of engagement and seizing opportunities. “Be involved and stay engaged. You never know when your peers or professors will reconnect and how those connections can help you,” she says. “Take advantage of every opportunity and career services event. Be open to saying yes—you never know where it might take you.”

Carolyn Crist’s story is a testament to the power of adaptability, lifelong learning, and the value of a strong network. Her journey inspires others to embrace change, challenge themselves, and make the most of every opportunity the Clemson MBA program offers.
