What’s New in Canvas

January 3, 2020

For a recent post about changes to Canvas, see: The New Canvas Rich Content Editor.

By David Bassett, Learning Technology Associate

As you prepare for the upcoming spring semester, you may notice a couple new visual changes and features available to you in Canvas. The most notable change is the introduction of the new version of your gradebook. If you were using the legacy gradebook there was an announcement informing you of an upcoming gradebook update, and it has finally arrived! Not to fear though, if you have questions, here is a handy comparison of features between the old gradebook and the new gradebook You can also find additional resources regarding the new gradebook here.

Furthermore, this semester we will see the introduction of new student context cards and updated analytics capabilities. The new student context cards will provide instructors with the ability to view a student’s progress in their course in a snapshot form. This will be accessible by navigating to the People tab and clicking on a student’s name. The new analytics features more in depth analytics and a wider variety of tools that will assist instructors in reviewing their course and their students.

If you need any assistance with Canvas or have general questions please visit us during one of our spring semester events. A comprehensive list can be found at: https://www.clemson.edu/online/events.html.

We hope you had a wonderful holiday and have a good start to your semester!
