GCTM – Mentoring For Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR/RECR)
Date: Thursday, April 4, 2025 12-1:30p
Description: This 90-minute interactive session will introduce faculty to mentoring for the principles of responsible (and ethical) conduct of research (RCR/RECR). Through discussions and a case study, participants will explore key topics such as how to help grad students understand data integrity, authorship practices, conflicts of interest, and mentorship dynamics. Additionally, the session will address the specific RCR/RECR training mandates required by federal funding agencies, ensuring participants understand how to align their research practices with grant compliance. By engaging in collaborative activities, faculty will learn to identify and address mentoring students through ethical dilemmas, empowering them to maintain integrity, accountability, and professionalism in their academic and professional research careers.Learning Objectives:
- Identify core mentoring principles of responsible and ethical conduct of research, including data integrity, authorship, conflict of interest, and compliance with NSF and NIH RCR/RECR training requirements.
- Analyze ethical mentoring dilemmas in research using a case study to recognize potential challenges and consider appropriate actions.
- Develop strategies to mentor students to uphold ethical research practices that meet both professional standards and grant compliance requirements.
Please reach out to Dr. Karen High, Director of the GCTM, at khigh@clemson.edu with any questions.
