The South Carolina SARE Program

The South Carolina SARE Program

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program is a federal grants and education program that seeks to support farmers, ranchers, researchers, and educators who are improving the sustainability of U.S. agriculture.

The National SARE Program administers multiple funding opportunities ranging from research grants to producer grants in four regions. Grants and program opportunities for the southeastern states are housed under Southern SARE. States in each region maintain a state specific SARE program housed at the state land grant institution(s) and some tribal nations and receive funds for a state program assistant and implementation of outreach activities in sustainable agriculture. Additionally, agriculture professionals and farmers in the southeastern region may find details to apply for larger grants from Southern SARE at the grant information page.

The South Carolina SARE (SC SARE) Program is co-coordinated by both of South Carolina’s Land Grant Institutions, Clemson University and South Carolina State University. SC SARE coordinates programming in sustainable agriculture and provides supplemental funding opportunities to agriculture professionals in the state with the same goal.  Support funding from SC SARE is intended to facilitate training of ag professionals and leaders who are in turn responsible for delivering educational programming to farmers, food systems professionals, small business owners, other ag professionals, students, etc.

APPLY FOR FUNDS: These grant funds are for “train-the-trainer” type activities and are only available to SC citizens. You may view and download the application and criteria for SC SARE support funding here. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
