CECAS Faculty & Staff Resources for Undergraduate Studies

Updates From This Week (August 23-29)

Here are some updates and new information from this past week.

  • A COVID-19 Dashboard has been added to the Healthy Clemson website to provide updated data and information about COVID-19 testing results and strategies.

  • The new class attendance tool went live for instructors in the my.Clemson mobile app or my.clemson.edu on August 27. This app allows you to view your class roster and which days they are assigned to attend in-person and online when we start hybrid classes on September 21.  Refer to the Academic Affairs email (August 27) for instructions.  Instructors are not to make changes to these assignments due to campus-wide contact tracing efforts.

  • Before any student (graduate or undergraduate) uses a campus facility during the online instruction period, they must be approved by the University and be tested for COVID-19 just like an employee. Contact your chair/director to submit a request for approval.

  • If you are teaching an undergraduate course, you should have received emails from Dean John Griffin on August 24 and from Brad Putman on August 27 about a new campaign called Engaged Online.  The goal of this initiative is to help identify students who may not be engaging in classes or who may be having issues at the beginning of the semester.  Engaged Online will run from August 31 through September 4.  You will receive another email on August 31 with instructions on how to report students of concern.  This will be a simple process and we ask for 100% participation.  As a follow-up, students will be contacted by academic advisors to offer support and assistance.

  • New Student Engagement Reporting Tool – CECAS has launched a new spreadsheet-based tool to collect information about student participation in out of class activities that are hosted by student organizations, departments, the college, and other entities. No event or activity is too small to include in this data collection effort and we appreciate the cooperation of all programs, so share this with student organizations that you are involved with.  We encouraged everyone to use the tool from this point forward.  You can even use it for events that have already occurred this semester.

The process is simple and it is outlined in the tool:

  1. Fill out the requested information about the event (this is really quick)
  2. Provide a list of attendees (names and Clemson usernames, emails, or ID number). Let us know if you have questions or would like some tips about how to easily take attendance.
  3. Save and return by email

With this information, we will be able to better understand the interests of our students based on their engagement patterns, identify areas to allocate resources, help programs/departments quantify their impact, and generally better serve CECAS units.  Reports will be shared with each department periodically throughout the year.

  • Questions about furlough?
    • Check the FAQs regularly for up-to-date answers to many common questions.
    • Check with your chair/director for specific guidelines related to your department.
    • Refer to the Academic Calendar for important dates for this semester.
    • Refer to the list of University Holidays as you plan.
