Here are some updates from the last couple of weeks for your information.
COVID-19 Updates
- Continue to read the OURClemson emails and refer to the Healthy Clemson website for the most up-to-date information related to COVID-19.
Fall Course Planning
- Class schedules are to be updated in Banner by COB today.
- This process by which students will request accommodations for online classes in the Fall semester is under development and is expected to be finalized by the end of the semester. The process will be more stringent than that used for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021.
- The Provost’s Office is working on a new policy regarding minimum enrollments for individual course sections. More information will be shared at the April OADC meeting.
Recruitment
- CECAS hosted virtual sessions for admitted students on March 9 and 23.
- PEER/WISE hosted their annual SEE Clemson event for underrepresented admitted undergraduate students on March 27.
- There will be two additional CECAS “tour” events on April 6 and 20 for prospective students. We are also planning to offer two virtual tour events in the summer (one in June and one in July).
- Per the Health & Safety Directives for University Visitors, we are not hosting campus or facility tours for prospective students. Campus facilities are still restricted to only Clemson student and employees.
Assessment
- The second Assessment Community “Roundtable” discussion was held yesterday and focused on collaboration in assessment. We appreciate that there was representation from most departments. The next discussion will be on April 21 at 11:00 am.
- Dr. Ashley Childers and Regina Taylor are holding weekly office hours for those who have questions or want to discuss topics related to assessment on Mondays (11:00-noon) and Tuesdays (10:30-11:30). Links to the virtual office hours are available in MS Teams (CECAS Assessment Community).
Student Engagement
- The third annual CECAS Spark Challenge culminated with the final pitch competition on March 23. This event is led by our University Innovation Fellows and The DEN under the guidance of Dr. John DesJardins.
- CECAS is accepting proposals for Student Organization Grants. More information can be found at the CECAS Opportunity Grants website.
Student Success
- CECAS is looking for tutors for the 2021-2022 academic year to support course support services offered by PEER/WISE, RISE, and General Engineering. Please encourage students to apply to be a tutor HERE.
- Two Clemson students have been selected as Goldwater Scholars and both are CECAS students.
- Gabriel Cutter, Computer Engineering
- Lauren Davis, Bioengineering
Other
- Starting in Fall 2022, it is likely that students will be required to take a 3 credit hour course that covers the founding documents of the United States in detail. This will be an amendment to the current legislation (REACH ACT). To be in compliance with this legislation students entering Clemson in the Fall 2021 (first-year and transfer) are to be advised to take HIST 1010, POSC 1010, or POSC 1030 as these are the only current classes that meet the requirements of the legislation. Students with AP/IB or transfer credit for these courses will not be required to take them again. More details will be forthcoming.
- REMINDER: The University is allowing more in-person events. If you are interested in hosting an in-person event, please review the Health & Safety Directives for Meetings and Events. If the event is for 50 or more participants, please follow the steps in this policy and refer to the approval process HERE. If the event is for less than 50 people, please see the policy and complete the Request Form that will be reviewed by the ELT.
- REMINDER: If you have other special academic requests (e.g., field trips, visitors, student travel, etc.), please use the Request Form referenced above and refer to the Health & Safety Directives for Meetings and Events and the Health & Safety Directives for University Visitors that are still in force.
