Healthy Lifestyles – Highlight

The Healthy Lifestyles Committee has been very busy. They have continued their Cooking Video competitions throughout the pandemic. Each month an ingredient was chosen as the highlighted item for the cooking competition videos. March was peanuts or peanut alternatives, April is strawberries and May will be dairy products.

On May 15th 4-H will be hosting their Healthy Lifestyles Summit. This is a time in which teams of 3 youth and a coach come together to practice skills and practice the recipes that will be utilized in the local Cooking Like a Chef Camps. This year’s emphasis is recipes that emphasize plant products. These teams will be responsible for teaching during the summer Cooking Like a Chef Camps.

Many 4-H Agents are busy this spring providing Healthy Lifestyles programs to youth in their counties. Some of these programs are with local schools while others are with community partners. These programs are being conducted virtually or through kits that are provided to the youth. Some agents are also conducting virtual programs in which the agents are providing instruction and youth are preparing recipes under the supervision of their parents. These programs are being conducted through a grant provided by the Walmart Foundation.
