Clemson University is taking steps to prioritize the well-being of its students, faculty, staff, and community members. Clemson defines well-being as an optimal and dynamic state that allows people to achieve their full potential.
To spearhead this initiative, Anna Fitch Courie, DNP, has been appointed as the new Chief Well-Being Officer. She will support the Clemson Elevate Plan, emphasizing holistic wellness.
On May 20th, the Office of Institutional Excellence launched the Clemson Well-Being Council to bring together multi-disciplinary and cross-college leadership to plan, prepare, collaborate, and coordinate recommendations for the Executive Leadership Team to make decisions and recommendations for resourcing in support of well-being.
The Clemson Well-Being Council is made up of 35 members. Roughly two-thirds of the membership are subject matter experts in health and well-being from across the university. The other third is comprised of Well-Being Ambassadors from each of the colleges and divisions to help proliferate goals and objectives throughout our college life.
Patricia Whitener is serving as the CAFLS ambassador to the Council. Patricia’s extensive experience in environmental education and her focus on the Thriving Model of 4-H Youth Development make her a valuable resource for promoting wellness within the university community. Patricia will be initiating informal discussion with various staff, students, and faculty.
If you are interested in connecting with Patricia to discuss dimensions of well-being, well-being needs, or to provide general input about well-being or other related topics that could impact our college and the university, please reach out to her at pwhiten@clemson.edu or stop by her office in 279 Lehotsky Hall.
