Stamatikos selected American Heart Association Discovery Chamber representative for the Upstate Region

The 2025 Upstate Heart Ball, held at the Greenville Convention Center, brought together nearly 300 community leaders, survivors and advocates for an evening of elegance and purpose.

The event raised critical funds for the American Heart Association, supporting its century-long mission to combat heart disease and stroke.

Among the evening’s highlights was the announcement of Alexis Stamatikos as the Discovery Chamber representative for the American Heart Association South Carolina Upstate Region. He is an assistant professor in the Department of  Food, Nutrition and Packaging Sciences.

This recognition by the Association celebrates the work of Stamatikos as a leading researcher of cardiovascular disease.

“With heart disease the leading cause of death in the U.S. and projections showing a troubling rise in risk factors among younger populations, the urgency of this mission has never been greater,” Stamatikos said.

Scientific discovery is a key component of the American Heart Association’s strategy to accelerate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research. Stamatikos has dedicated his career to understanding what causes heart disease and how to stop it.

His current research focuses on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, the leading contributor to heart disease and stroke. He was recently elected Fellow of the American Heart Association.

In addition to publishing his findings in several scientific journals, Stamatikos also mentors students, guiding the next generation of scientists.
