Adaptation to Climate Change Assistant Professors Selected

Twelve full-time faculty positions will be allocated to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences with the first positions specializing in adaptation to climate change.  Last Spring ’22 two new faculty members were selected with hire dates for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023, Chao Fan and Joshua Bregy, respectively.  Please read about our newest faculty members below.

Chao Fan, Assistant Professor

Chao Fan earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University.  Dr. Fan’s research focuses on Integrated Intelligence, a quest to develop data science and AI solutions to global challenges at the nexus of human, infrastructure and natural environment in ever-changing climate conditions, towards Sustainablity, Resilience, Equity and Livability.


Joshua Bregy, Assistant Professor

Joshua Bregy earned a PhD in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and a PhD in Geography from Indiana University.  Dr. Bregy’s research examines tropical cyclone and tropical-cyclone hazard variability over multiple timescales (annual to multi-millennial) to better understand the natural drivers of changes in the hurricane climate.  Joshua Bregy will join the School in January 2023.
