Ashok Mishra Elected to CUAHSI Board

March 11, 2020

Dr. Ashok Mishra, Deans’s Professor in Civil Engineering was elected to the board of directors of the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI).  This election is voted by the CUAHSI members, which consist of more than 130 US universities and international organizations.

CUAHSI founded in 2001 is a 501(c)(3) research organization representing more than 130 U.S. universities and international water science-related organizations.  Its board members oversee the consortium’s activities and serve as liaisons to their communities. CUAHSI receives support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop infrastructure and services for the advancement of water science in the United States. Mishra received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2017 to create a model for improving water sustainability during extreme droughts. He is testing his methodology in the Savannah River Basin in South Carolina and Georgia.

“The CUAHSI mission is to advance interdisciplinary research in data science and instrumentation, which is critical in this era of global climate change and water security,” Mishra said, and I am honored to have been elected to the board to help accomplish that mission. CUAHSI’s initiatives for developing innovative computational and data mining tools, as well as its programs to support graduate students, will both play an important role in moving the field forward.
